Pezy wins GIO Award with innovative bread-cutting system

Pezy Product Innovation has recently won the coveted GIO award for the innovative Hotelslicer bread-cutting system of the Leekster company Qualicasa BV. The GIO award - comparable to the American Idea Award and the German Red Dot and iF Award - was presented during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on 22 October 2010.

The Erkenning Goed Industrieel Ontwerp (Recognition for a Good Industrial Design), better known as GIO, is the only prize in our country which awards the expertise of both designer and client. To qualify for this quality mark, a product must be more than just attractive. Functionality, ergonomics, originality, design and use of materials are of equal importance. The annual award of the prize is organized by Designlink, whereby an independent panel considers more than 100 submissions. The Hotelslicer met all the assessment criteria in the Professional Products category, and it may therefore use the GIO mark.

The Hotelslicer, offered at an increasing number of hotel and catering establishments, cuts fresh, uncut bread, allowing the bread to look and taste its best. It can be cut easily into even, straight slices of any thickness; thick crusts or oven-fresh bread are cut without any problem without affecting the bread's structure. This is made possible by means of a patented, frictionless guide, in which a high-quality, ergonomic knife moves, which has been sharpened at both sides.

Pezy is one of the largest firms in the Netherlands operating in the field of industrial product development, with branches in Eindhoven and Groningen. Pezy won the GIO award in collaboration with its sister company We Are Perspective in Amsterdam. The Hotelslicer was demonstrated at Pezy's stand at the North Netherlands Promotion Days in Martiniplaza, Groningen, at the beginning of November 2010.
