Océ-Technologies BV: "Pezy is a partner where all these important aspects for the quick development of injection molded products come together".
Océ-Technologies B.V. has their own prototype shop in Venlo, responsible for the realization of mechanical prototype components for R&D. Océ Protoshop has contracted out a portion of its workload throughout its own region (Brabant and Limburg), but also across the Benelux and Germany.
For the production of prototypes in plastic, Océ’s Protoshop has possibilities beyond its in-house capabilities. Plastic prototypes are almost always frontrunners to full production series injection molded parts from the Far East. These suppliers are therefore not just around the corner.
For prototypes the investment in tooling during the development or engineering phase is not evident because of the high risk of incurring changes to the tool. So for prototypes in technical plastics, Océ Protoshop often chooses for relatively cost effective universal manufacturing techniques such as machining and rapid prototyping. Universal manufacturing technologies have a weakness in that it’s only an approximation of the final product and therefore often comes up short when assessing prototypes.
If there are absolutely no concessions allowed for form, tolerances and/or material, then all that remains is to choose for the final production method: injection molding; despite the small R&D quantities and high chance of making changes.
For R&D projects of this type the client has a need for a partner that:
• Has enough experience and injection molding knowledge
• Can react quickly to the task
• Can communicate directly with the design engineer.
• Is trusted with low cost tooling manufacture.
An important aspect is that R&D product engineers are generally only interested in the injection molded part and not in the tooling manufacture, which is where their expertise falls short.
Pezy in Groningen is a partner where all these important aspects for the quick development of injection molded products come together. The first projects between Océ and Pezy date back almost 10 years, when Pezy engineers were asked to contribute to the design of complex injection molded parts. Around 8 years ago Pezy started with delivering prototype parts for R&D and have developed a sound relationship.
With a knowledge center in Eindhoven, Pezy is close by. Questions over manufacturing feasibility, injection gate location and or parting lines are therefore easy and quick to resolve. We focus on ‘First time right”, always the most cost effective solution.
With an average leadtime from offer to final components being less than 15 workdays, Pezy is perfectly suited to our R&D needs. Also, the quality of Pezy injected molded parts has been repeatedly proven to be good enough for production startup series, saving valuable time to market.
